Kelly Halloran

Kelly began studying violin at age four through the Suzuki Method. At age 18, she moved to New York City and made a living primarily as a street performer, playing  jazz standards in the Subway and Central Park.    She began studying jazz violin at The New School for Contemporary Music, and performing weekly in a string trio in Atlantic City’s casinos. Shortly thereafter Kelly began gigging with original music groups in various genres including Americana, Singer/songwriter, Alternative Rock, Pop touring nationally and internationally. Kelly's live performance credits include Michael Franti and Spearhead, Tom Morello, G Love & Special Sauce, Paolo Nutini, SOJA, Jackson Browne, Pete Huttlinger (John Denver's Band), Chad Stokes (Dispatch), Kristy Lee and Dirt Road Revival, Ethan Tucker, Beverly McClellan (The Voice), CJ Chenier (Zydeco King), Dina Fanai & Bob Kinkel (Trans Siberian Orchestra) and Mary Fahl of October Project. She has also opened for/toured in support of esteemed artists such as Judy Collins, Howard Jones, Blues Traveler, Indigo Girls, John Barrowman, Elizabeth McGovern, and Shawn Colvin.

I teach violin / fiddle not through one method or genre but a unique blend of various styles, each one taking a fundamental seat in a broader performance curriculum. For example, beautiful classical pieces form our most baseline technique while country western or bluegrass make for a strong and agile bow, not to mention having some tricks to merry up the campfire or front porch gatherings. Pop / Blues / Jazz and Rock n Roll are great genres for prospective improvisors and future stage performers. From Lindsey Stirling to Charlie Daniel's Band to Stephane Grappelli, I enjoy teaching and helping students move towards their dreams and musical passions.
