About

My name is Kevin and I have been a musician for over 30 years!  I play 7 different instruments: Guitar, Bass Guitar, Banjo, Ukulele, Mandolin, Lap Steel, and Piano. I have 2 degrees in Classical Guitar and have played/performed in rock bands for 25 years.  I have been teaching for over 20 years and I love it!  I also have 2 courses published on Udemy- 1 for music theory and 1 for beginner guitar.  My specialties include: fingerstyle, classical, bluegrass, blues, rock, metal, pop, and folk.

My teaching style is absolutely customized to each individual.  If you are a beginner, you will most likely have a book or ebook to work from. This keeps the lessons goal- oriented and progressive from week-to-week.  The customization happens with what style that you choose to play.  For example:  If you want to learn lead guitar licks and solos, we would start with the formation and patterns of scales and transition to how they turn into licks and riffs. If you want to play blues, you will learn the basic history of the 12-bar structure and shuffle rhythms.  If you want to learn classical guitar, you must learn to read music notes first and learn to play everything with your individual fingers instead of a pick. There are many more examples so please inquire if you are interested and I will work to meet your individual needs!

Depends on which instrument you play!  Here are some examples of books that my beginners use for learning:

Guitar- 'Everybody's Guitar Method 1 'by Phillip Groeber- teaches basic note-reading, chords, and melody picking

Banjo- 'Banjo Primer Book for Beginners' by Geoff Hohwald- teaches how to hold the banjo, how to use the picks, basic right-hand roll patterns, and many many songs.
