About

Lee Langstaff began working with wool through knitting and spinning 40 years ago without imagining that it was providing the basis for establishing a handspinners flock on Shepherd’s Hey Farm in Maryland beginning in 2000. After attending the MD Sheep & Wool Festival she selected foundation breeding stock based on her personal preference for desirable fleece qualities for handspinning.  Years later her resulting flock of mixed breed natural colored (non-white) sheep has been managed specifically for the purpose of producing fleeces in a beautiful range of colors, that have great character and hand, and are versatile and a pleasure to work with. Lee is a certified level II wool classer and has judged fleece competitions. She is co-chair of the MD Sheep & Wool Festival as well as co-chair of its Fleece Show & Sale, and past President of the MD Sheep Breeders Association. She has taught workshops on coating sheep to optimize fleece quality; fleece evaluation; how to prepare fleeces for sale; and how to prepare sheepskins for tanning.
