About

Studied music at UW-Stevens Point (Suzuki and classically trained), Lehi Gertz is a fiddler in several bands in MN specializing in Country, Folk, Bluegrass and Old Time fiddling styles.  Lehi currently teaches orchestra to beginner as well as intermediate students and has been teaching piano and violin for over 18 years.

I like to make lessons fun.  I never make a student feel bad for not practicing because I believe everyone moves at their own pace.  However, I'll give students a lot to handle every week, which makes things a challenge.   My teaching is student-centered, meaning I tailor my lessons to each student's needs, whether they need more etudes or need to learn a piece by ear.  I have experience in jazz piano and accompanying choirs.  I've played guitar along with my fiddle students.  I've taken high school age beginning string players and gotten them ready for college orchestra.  I've taught toddlers to play the violin as well as octogenarians.

Depends on the student.  For piano, I prefer Faber Method.  For violin, Essential Elements, String Basics, Suzuki method with a mix of traditional fiddling is fine.  For more advanced violin students, Maszas, Suzuki, Kreutzer as well as pieces from traditional repertoire are recommended.  I would be the ideal teacher for a bright, fast learning pace student who may be feeling like they can accomplish anything, yet don't want to be intimidated by perfectionism or harsh criticism.
