Leigh Mahoney
About
Leigh Mahoney is a founding member and first violinist of the Tosca String Quartet. She received her BFA from
Carnegie Mellon University, and her Masters Degree in Music from the University of Texas at Austin. Her
crossover career from Classical to Pop and Rock music has given Leigh the opportunity to tour the world as a
violinist for David Byrne of the Talking Heads. She has performed and recorded with David Byrne, Arcade Fire,
Ray Benson, Bob Schneider, The Dixie Chicks, and has played on soundtracks for feature films and Netflix.
An avid tango violinist, she has participated in master classes in Buenos Aires with violinists Mauricio Marcelli and
Raul Gallo, of El Arranque, Leigh loves teaching students of all ages, and encourages her students to learn different
styles of music. She performs regularly throughout Texas with her chamber-pop band, Montopolis.

I structure the lesson around the needs and wants of the student. I teach efficient practice techniques, the importance of having your own voice on the violin, and musicality.
I expect there to be desire to want to play the violin, a desire to practice, and to have specific goals in mind.
