Lexie Johnson
About
I have been teaching private music lessons since January 2021, working with students of all ages and skill levels. I started teaching at Wayne State College in January of 2021. In August of 2024, I opened my own studio, "Lexie's Lessons." I specialize in voice, helping students build strong technique, confidence, and stage presence in a supportive and encouraging environment.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Music Performance from Wayne State College, which provides a strong foundation in vocal technique, musicianship, and performance. In addition to teaching, I am an active actor in the St. Louis area, bringing real-world performance experience into my lessons. This allows me to guide students not only in how to sing, but how to connect, express, and perform with confidence. I am currently playing Mrs. Puff in The SpongeBob Musical.
Throughout my teaching, I’ve worked with beginners just starting their musical journey as well as more advanced students preparing for performances, auditions, and recitals. I have experience teaching a variety of styles, including pop, musical theatre, and contemporary music, so students can explore the genres they love while building strong, healthy technique.
Each lesson is tailored to the individual student, combining vocal exercises, song work, and creative exploration. My goal is to help every student grow in their skills while developing confidence and a lifelong love of music.
Teaching Style
My teaching style is supportive, engaging, and personalized to each student. I believe every student learns differently, so I tailor each lesson to fit individual goals, learning styles, and musical interests.
I focus on building a strong technical foundation while keeping lessons fun and creative. Students work on healthy vocal technique, breath support, tone, and range, while also developing confidence, expression, and performance skills.
As an active performer and actor, I place a strong emphasis on storytelling and connecting to the music. I encourage students to not just sing the notes, but to understand the meaning behind the song and communicate it with confidence.
Lessons are a balance of structure and creativity—combining warm-ups, technique exercises, and song work with opportunities for exploration and growth. I create a positive, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, and improving each week.
My goal is for every student to leave lessons feeling more confident, motivated, and excited about their progress.
