About

I've been a musician for the last 14 years of my life, for 9 of those years I've been teaching at various levels. Beyond that I've played a lot of music from a lot of different genres, the list is a little long so I will try and spare you from that. Most of what I've done as a musician has been filling in for people that need my services, a lot of last minute phone calls from folks trying to get a bassist or a guitarist; as a result I've found myself in a few rather odd gigging venues as well as playing a completely foreign selection of music it has been quite the learning experience up to now in terms of my gigging life.

In terms of teaching I did a fair amount of work in the schools in the area I grew up in, I have mostly dealt with middle schoolers and younger but did managed to get a few years of work in with high school aged kids by the time the Pandemic hit. Unfortunately due to that I needed to close up physical shop so as to keep everybody safe.

Teaching Style

I try to cater all of my lessons to the wants and needs of the student. I also try to balance aforementioned wants and needs, because I feel sometimes students can get a little ahead of themselves. They want to learn a certain song or technique but they won't want to learn the layers of knowledge that go into the song or techique, where I come in in all of this is to more or less just steer my students in the right direction and answer any questions they may have, as well as manage any expectations that are less than realistic. I also will try and craft my own exercises using open source notation software (all of my students will learn to read music) so every aspect of my instruction can be tailor made to fit the student.

Curriculum

No texts or methods to speak of, I spent the majority of my musical education just playing music and learning scraps of knowledge along the way. My goal when I teach my students is to give them the skills and tools they need to be independant using the power of the internet, as well as learn other things that relate to overall well rounded musicianship.
