About

I am a full-time, classically trained ethnofolk musician from Santa Fe, NM. My area of expertise is primarily in Klezmer and Eastern European music. I have previously professionally performed classical chamber music on both brass and strings, Balkan brass, brass section funk, jazz fiddle, Celtic fiddle, blues fiddle, jazz trombone, polka on brass and accordion, tango on violin and accordion, and early music on recorders. In addition to playing with numerous musical groups of various genres I am the founder and musical director of an integrative Klezmer band, Los Klezmerados de Santa Fe, and have vast experience performing  and teaching Jewish liturgical music for the Santa Fe Jewish Center Chabad, Kol Berama of Santa Fe, and Temple Beth Shalom of Santa Fe.

In addition to performing and teaching I also compose and record original music using a combination of my acoustic instruments and synthesizer, as well as mix and produce a bi-weekly Klezmer radio show for Santa Fe Public Radio. You can listen to my original music and my radio show here: https://soundcloud.com/liv-o-1

I have been teaching both private lessons and youth ensembles for over a decade, and know how to keep a lesson light-hearted, fun, and encouraging (many students/parents have told me I use my sense of humor well). I am also a certified yoga instructor and incoroporate many yogic concepts into my classes. I use time-tested methodology from classical technique books with all of my students from beginner through advanced. I also take individualized approaches to more advanced students whose interest may expand further than the classical world. In particular, I am well-versed in teaching world folk styles and jazz. I enjoy finding innovative ways to use zoom and technology in general to further enhance the learning experience, including recording and mixing custom backing tracks for students to practice with. I know a lot of people have been dismissive of learning through zoom these days, but I view zoom as an advantageous platform rather than a last resort and seek to utilize all of its many benefits for learning an instrument.
