About

Heyo! My name is Mandie and...you name it, I have done it in the music industry!  Let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I grew up in a small town in Virginia where I regularly performed in church and local theatres.  When it was time to go to college, there was no question I wanted to study music and singing.  I started out pursuing contemporary singing.  In my first two years of college, I received the opportunities to help manage music festivals, meet my favorite bands, study with Grammy winning song writers, and perform in my own band.  However, one special professor pushed me to study classical music.  This is where my passion for music really began to soar.  Within the next couple years I was studying opera all over Europe with some of the world's most prominent opera singers, teachers, and directors.  After awhile, that same professor pushed me to further my education so I could become a teacher.  I have been teaching for several years now, and I absolutely love it.  Whether you are a professional or a beginner, younger or...a little late to the game :), I love sharing my passion for music with anyone at any stage!

Unlike other teachers, I incorporate things in my lessons that I wish I had been taught when I was the student.   Every lesson, I begin with warmups.  These are not only to warm up the voice, but I also explain with each exercise is important and how to apply the technique to different music scenarios.  Another thing that I wish was more incorporated in music lessons is ear training!  If you plan to be a professional or collegiate singer, this is an important thing to get a jump on.  In each lesson, I utilize sightsinging and ear training as "Challenges"  to help my students learn to be elite singers from the very beginning.  Then, of course, there is the singing part!  I ask my students to pick a variety of music that they would like to study so that they are not only singing music they WANT to sing, but also so that I can best prepare lessons based off of their musical preferences and goals.

I am a self proclaimed "adaptable" teacher.  I don't believe every one learns the same way or should be taught the same way.  Therefore, I spend alot of time figuring out your best learning style and tailor my lessons to you!
