About

Marcie Brown has a Master’s Degree from Manhattan School of Music in classical cello. She studied jazz and improvisation at the University of Massachusetts.  She  performed over 600 shows with Cirque du Soleil’s “0”  in Las Vegas, playing cello, guitar and singing. She was also the head of the strings department at the Oakland School for the Arts.

Ms. Brown is the founder of the Alameda Cello Academy where she teaches daily. She has played with many orchestras including the Houston Symphony, the Tucson Symphony and the Brooklyn Philharmonic.  She has performed beside many great artists such as Ray Charles, Luciano Pavarotti,  Andreas Bocelli, Dizzy Gillespie and Itzak Perlman. She currently lives in the bay area where she performs with the Island City String Quartet. When Ms. Brown is not teaching or performing music she loves to take long walks on the beach beside the ocean with her quirky golden doodle dog named Biscuit.

I teach all kinds of music with the basic elements being stressed: scales and arpeggios! I would say I am very encouraging and supportive while being demanding at the same time, a win win combination!
