Mark Martin

My name is Mark Martin, and I'm a lifelong creative, performer, and noisemaker. I believe that art and creative expression is natural and necessary for everyone - it's one of the most important ways we can learn about the world and ourselves. One of the greatest things about beatboxing is that no two beatboxers are the same - we all have different bodies and different experiences that shape the musical person you are and what you will become.

I am a professional artist based in New York City, with over 11 years of teaching experience. I am the 2016 American Beatbox Champion, and compete and judge in numerous international beatboxing events around the globe. Recently, I gave a Tedx Talk on my work utilizing beatboxing as a tool for speech therapy .

I am coowner and founder of American Beatbox, an organization dedicated to community building and helping beatboxers around the world thrive. 

I am a co-owner and founder of The  Academy of Noise, an organization dedicated to sharing the power of beatboxing as a educational tool. 

I graduated from NYU's Gallatin School with a major in Beatbox as a Language, and a minor in Entertainment Media and Music Business, at which point I traveled the world for 5 years as a beatboxer in a traveling acapella theater show. I have over 20 years of experience as a vocalist, focusing on classical, jazz, musical theater, hip-hop and and contemporary music. I also have more than 20 years of experience as an upright and electric bass player, and was trained in music theory, ear training, jazz theory, and music production.
