About

Hello! My name is Max Fletcher - I have been playing and teaching guitar for over 15 years. I recently graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music, where I studied Guitar Performance with Maestros Eliot Fisk and Joe Morris, and Composition with Stratis Minakakis. I began with the electric guitar at age 10 playing jazz, blues, and metal before becoming interested in classical guitar when I was 14. I have performed internationally in numerous masterclasses for esteemed guitarists such as Leo Brouwer, Eduardo Fernandez, David Tanenbaum, Jorge Caballero, Zaira Meneses, Grisha Goryachev, and Senio Diaz. In 2019 I organized and directed the Promenade Sauvage Residency, a 3-day event of demonstrations, masterclasses and concerts hosted at the New England Conservatory.

When teaching, I have always tried to provide a multi-faceted and multi-dimensional experience that encourages learning to take place on many levels simultaneously. Music making is a process that involves many technical, theoretical, and practical elements, and is not a linear progression but often more circular in nature. In my own practice I have always tried to let the music guide and inform me, and consequently the most important element of my teaching is the experience of the music itself.
