About

If you're ready to feel the rewards of hard work, learn to channel your passion for music into moving performances, and work with a teacher who tailors learning to your unique learning needs, come try a lesson with me. I believe in finding not talented students, but the unique talents within every student.

20 years as a classical and improvising flutist and teacher. Also an experienced yoga and meditation practitioner, and a certified personal trainer -- so you'll develop mastery on your instrument with deep listening and healthy playing.

Teaching Style

Serious and playful. Think of my studio more as a martial arts dojo or gymnastics studio than a traditional music lesson. You'll get fundamentals and rigor -- and the freedom and expressiveness they support. Every lesson includes warmup, technique, improvisation, repertoire, theory, and performance practice. Specific content is determined by a blend of my advice and the student's tastes and goals.

Curriculum

Every student has different goals and lewrning styles. My job as your teacher is to observe, assess, and attune my methods to what will make you successful. That means I've built a robust tool box. I draw on Dalcroze, Orff, Kodaly, and Suzuki methods, as well as the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum, traditional and Schenkerian analysis, body mapping, and a Montessori-style pedagogical approach. My teaching philosophy is student-centered, inclusive, and empowering. All materials are determined after the initial lesson and revised based on periodic assessments.
