About
Award-winning flutist Megan Tapley has performed across the US, in venues ranging from grungy dive bars to state-of-the-art auditoriums, and in genres ranging from classical, through Irish folk, to funk and beyond. With 15 years of experience on classical flute and 20+ on Irish tinwhistle, she focuses primarily on these instruments, but is also qualified to teach beginning piano, as well as music theory and ear training.
I believe in students' innate musical knowledge; my job is to give you the tools to express what is already in your soul. I also believe that human relationships are a central part of music making. As a teacher, my greatest desire is for all my students to feel comfortable and respected in lessons, so that they can fully focus on growing both as a musician and as a person. Other than that, my approach may vary considerably between students, because there is no one-size-fits-all approach.

Recommended Materials:
For beginning flute students: Any method book, such as the Rubank series.
For all flute students: 17 Big Daily Exercises, by Taffanel and Gaubert.
For students wishing to focus on Celtic music: A tunebook, such Dave Mallinson's "100 Essential Irish Session Tunes," any of the O'Flaherty's Retreat Tunebooks (free download at: https://oflahertyretreat.org/student-resources/ ), or any volume of the Portland Collection (contra-dance focused, but good).
