Miljana Tomic
About
Miljana Tomic holds a Bachelor's degree in Music Pedagogy and two Master's degrees in Music Theory from the Faculty of Music in Belgrade and also from the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo. She started her music education at the age of 9 and, subsequently completed primary and secondary music education in Serbia with piano as a major. In addition to relevant academic background, she has educational practice and experience with various types of teaching and instructions (piano teacher, music theory teacher, ABRSM music theory/piano teacher, choir conductor etc) for over ten years. Also, she holds a NCTM (Nationally Certified Teacher of Music), as well as recognition of Foreign Higher Education in Norway. Beside that, she has the experience in teaching children with special needs.
As a teacher I tend to adapt my teaching methods to the subject areas that I teach. One of the methods that I follow is the KUD method: "Know, Understand, Do." Before I start teaching each lesson, I always need to choose what I want my students to know, understand, and do. My teaching methods are based on element of play, helping the children to learn at their own level of understanding. While teaching adults, I tend to begin with learning notes, basic rhythms, and learning pitch by using piano. By using this learning methods, a student naturally gains mastery of sight reading and ear training while playing piano.
