About

My name is Mohammad Abdelrahman, and I am a pianist and educator. I hold a Master of Music from Illinois State University, and am an active collaborator and performer in central Illinois. Originally from Chicago, I began playing the piano at the late age of 18, but have since performed as soloist with orchestra during my undergraduate studies, and performed multiple recitals in and outside of school. My area of expertise is classical piano, however, I understand the fundamentals of Jazz, Music Theory, and Musical Theater well enough to endow that knowledge if one so desired. I have 5 and a half years of private teaching experience working with all ages, but considering my late start, I find my ability to communicate the ways of getting over challenges to be quite a bit easier when working with adults!

Teaching Style

I utilize real world experiences and the most basic laws of physics in my approach to teaching one how to play the piano with a comfortable technique. In terms of the more theoretical side to music, I believe in a wholistic approach, utilizing every sense as a unit and as individual structures. What we see on the page, hear in the air, and feel in our fingertips must be understood in isolation and as a whole. Every student learns differently and at different rates, so I am more than happy to meet students where they are and build from there!
