About

Music has always been a big part of my life. I started singing at two years old and started playing the violin at the age of 8.  In 2004 I graduated from Mansfield University with my BM in Music Education. Voice was my primary instrument with a secondary in Violin and Viola.

After graduating, I felt like my voice wasn't relaxed when I sang and for years sought out a voice teacher who could take my voice to the next level. I was blessed to mentor with Seth Riggs, whose vocal technique is all about vocal health- relaxing the larynx, forward vowel placement, and singing as simple as speaking. This technique put me in the direction of a more holistic approach to singing.

I had the opportunity to play with a guitarist after college who brought me out of my shell and supported me in writing music and playing other styles other than classical on my violin and viola. I love playing all styles of music and am always blessed to have my violin to pick up and play.

Having music in my life has helped me in every difficult, painful, and joyous situation. It is the thing I know will always be there. If I'm having a bad day, I can play and sing my emotions. I always feel so much better. If I'm having a happy day, I can play and sing and convey those emotions. If I'm stressed out, I have music. Music is just amazing!

I have always known and felt the power of music. Having the opportunity to teach others has been an absolute blessing. I am passionate about teaching my students the importance of singing and playing healthily while supporting them as they grow and develop their musical skills. I want to give opportunities to my students that will allow them to experience the music connection.

As a voice teacher, I have spent decades learning and studying techniques that allow the voice to stay relaxed and connected. Learning how to free your voice and free your body while singing will enable you to stay connected with your voice and find joy in singing. I love that every voice is unique. My goal as a teacher is to support each student in finding the power and uniqueness of their sound. Discovering the power of your voice builds confidence and gives you the tools and ability to sing your best.

This holistic approach focuses on whole-body experience. As each part of our body aligns with one another, it supports and frees the voice. Understanding and releasing any tension that may be present in the body is explored in lessons.

You will learn warm-ups that will train your vocal cords to connect. You will learn to relax your larynx while singing. Most importantly, you will learn and understand the difference between chest voice, mix voice, and head voice- essential for singing flawlessly thru your bridges.

As you free your voice, you will find greater ease of singing and speaking and discover the joy of singing.

As a violin and viola teacher, I want to give you the tips and tricks that will aid you in playing your best. Creating a good bow sound, playing in tune, and keeping a steady beat are essential foundations. Connecting to your instrument and playing from your heart is what will set you apart from the person playing next to you. Foundations and the classics are important, but I also encourage my students to explore other styles of playing, including improvisation.

I believe that each student learns and grows differently at different paces. Building a strong foundation is important. I recognize that everyone learns to build their foundation differently. I get to know each of my student's learning styles so that I am able to teach them in a way they can reach their greatest potential. Building confidence and connecting to the music and your instruments are also a focus of mine.
