About

I'm a flutist, Japanese language instructor, and Alexander Technique teacher based in Seattle, WA. My teaching experience spans over 15 years and includes Japanese language lessons, private flute instruction, chamber music workshops, and an assistantship to a Dalcroze eurhythmics course.

I hold degrees from New England Conservatory and the University of Washington. I completed additional studies at the Sibelius Academy in Finland as a Fulbright Scholar and am an AmSAT certified teacher of the Alexander Technique.

Teaching Style

JAPANESE

Growing up multilingual, I understand the difficulty of trying to juggle several languages. Whether you want to exercise your brain, further immerse yourself in Japanese culture, prepare for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), or simply brush up on your skills prior to a trip, I am happy to be of help. Lessons include reading, writing, listening, translating literature and news articles, and speaking (polite, casual, and formal styles). I work out of Genki I, Genki II, Quartet, and Tobira. I welcome beginning and intermediate Japanese students!

FLUTE

I welcome students of all ages and abilities into my studio. Lessons are structured around the student’s goals, whether to play professionally or as a hobby. Stylistic choices in musical expression and phrasing are taught by incorporating music theory, music history, and ear-training skills into lessons. Students learn to produce a beautiful tone and to express themselves freely.

As an AmSAT certified Alexander Technique teacher, I firmly believe that the psychophysical mechanism is paramount to success in healthy music-making. Lessons will incorporate many elements from this technique to help students practice efficiently, prevent and alleviate repetitive stress injuries, overcome performance anxiety, and perform confidently.
