About

With my origins in Kolkata, India, I started my first music lessons at the age of seven.  After 10 years of training into Hindustani classical music, bhajans, ghazals and folks I obtained my Baccalaureate degree in light classical vocal music from Bharatiya Sangeet Vidya Bihar and was awarded a silver medal at the state level. To further advance my music education, I started my classical training under guru Pt. Shyamal Lahiri, the son of Late Pt. Chinmoy Lahiri of Agra Gharana of North Indian Hindustani Classical music and got trained for several years.  In 2001 I moved to the US and eventually became adapted to my new country. I have continued my practice of classical singing and occasional performance of Hindustani music with all my passion. I have performed on stage several times during my music career and has found many opportunities to teach both in India and the US. I am also enthusiastic about Bengali music and its genres.  I currently train both kids and adults and provide vocal training and lessons in both classical and light classical Indian music.

I am looking for students who are passionate about Indian music and will set aside some time for practice every week. My goal is to train students in a manner they understand their strengths and become independent and confident singers.

Voice training, pitch correction and understanding of raagas, taalas and scales should be the focus of each class.  I will help students know their strengths and weaknesses and focus accordingly.
