About

Graduate of the Colburn Conservatory of Music, Nathan has developed the technical skills and reed making necessary to become proficient in bassoon. With a decade of private instruction under his belt, he has seen students advance to Allstate, adult learners add a new instrument to their repertoire, and has been a part of countless creative projects like group recitals, recording projects, etc.

Currently located in Los Angeles, CA, Nathan is a part of orchestras across Southern California such as the Fresno Philharmonic, Sacramento Philharmonic, and Modesto Symphony orchestras. He has also worked as a recording artist for a number of projects including albums, video game scoring, musicals, etc.

Nathan has extensive performance experience, and has played bassoon and contrabassoon for nearly two decades. He has performed in concert halls in Puerto Rico, Beijing, New York City, and other across the world. With a focus on modern and baroque bassoons, he is proficient in all bassoon repertoire between the Renaissance and music of today.

Nathan performs on a 12,000 series Heckel bassoon and custom handmade reeds that are available for purchase.

Teaching Style

I may be biased, but I think bassoon is the hardest instrument! I have found to balance the various challenges we are faced with, a totally individualized approach works best.

We would work together to identify goals such as audition preparation, orchestral repertoire, music theory, etc. And then, we would collaborate to find the best ways to address areas of growth through etudes, solos, scales, etc.

Bassoon has hundreds of years of music to choose from- we are bound to find repertoire that is engaging and specific to your needs!
