About
I have been teaching guitar for over 12 years. I started playing guitar when I was 10 years old at a small guitar shop in Bedford, Pennsylvania. I learned beginner chords, note reading, and fingerpicking and was off on my musical journey from there singing along to CSNY and Tears in Heaven.
In 2012 I released my first album Broken Ground as part of a Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant. I currently co-own a small music shop in Minneapolis called Blackbird's Music Store where I teach lessons, sell and repair instruments. I am currently working on another album through Patreon. I enjoy playing gigs at coffee shops and other small venues and I also love to jam!
Music has been a daily part of my life for many years. So I like to find ways for students to appreciate and grow in their musical interests just like me, exploring how they can appreciate music everyday in their lives. I provide beginning students with basic chord and daily exercises to get started. I like to emphasize songs students know or write themselves.
I love working with beginners to develop an appreciation for guitar by finding ways to practice that make sense for each student through styles, songs, and exercises. For more experienced students I like to make a plan centering around goals created by each student. This can be centered around a song or a book where we explore new techniques and skills.
