About

I hold master’s and Ph.D. degrees in North Indian Classical Music (Vocal). I have taught Indian Classical Vocal Music to undergraduate students and trained students to tune the tanpura and play instruments such as harmonium and tabla for solo performances as well as part of an ensemble for 8 years.

As a teacher, I offer expert knowledge in North Indian (Hindustani) Classical music. I have extensive experience preparing students for individual and group performances. I always went above and beyond what was expected of me to train my students and help them succeed. Consequently, my students consistently won well-known competitions such as Sangeet Natak Academy and Sahitya Kala Academy, and other inter-university competitions. As a performer, I have presented North Indian Classical Vocal Music at YMCA Delhi, Youth festivals at Panjab University Chandigarh, and various other concerts. Links to some sample performances are available upon request.

I am deeply empathetic and easily connect with my students. As every student learns at his or her own pace, I believe it to be crucial for a teacher to be able to recognize and adapt to these subtle differences. Keeping this in mind, I utilize varying approaches to students depending on their needs, sometimes taking a step back to basics like voice techniques to strengthening vocal cords rather than focusing on the piece itself. I am extremely patient as an instructor and happy to provide extra help to the students who are having difficulty keeping up with the pace. I also encourage my more advanced students to explore their talents and create their own pieces, like the expansion of Ragas and making notations of the songs
