About

I love to share the joy and healing powers of music! I have been teaching music as my primary job for over 10 years.

I was raised in a musical household, and I learned to read music at the same time I was learning to read.  I studied to become an art therapist at a college that allowed me to take music courses as well, and network with some amazing jazz musicians. Music kept calling me, and as I began to teach, I realized music's amazing ability to help rewire the brain, allow authentic expression deeper than words, and assist in emotional regulation for those who are struggling.

I am often found performing leading campfire style sing alongs for events, dressed in full ren-faire costumes playing fiddle, leading ukulele clubs for young kids, or hosting shows of students where they showcase a variety of styles and songs they wrote. I recently released an album of songs I wrote about identity, specifically LGBTQ+ identity, living authentically, and finding non-dogmatic spiritual peace.  I sing, both melody and harmony, play violin, and guitar on the album under the name NewSong.Studio.

Teaching Style

Music is a skill that anyone can learn! I am trauma informed and gender affirming.

It is such a gift to have the ability to make music. Music brings us together, it helps us express ourselves, it can bring comfort, entertainment, joy, and love.

I have an approach to teaching that focuses on cultivating enjoyment of music while learning an instrument.

I help all my students in becoming well rounded musicians, with some knowledge of music reading, improvisation, theory, and song-writing. I emphasize students’ strengths and support them in their challenges. I specialize in making learning fun even for the frustrated student.  I love it when students come to me with unique goals!

I have worked with all types of people, including those who struggle with learning differences, emotional challenges, and those who consider themselves musically challenged. Music classes with me are a supportive space to learn, discover, and express yourself.

I also love to do voice work with transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming students.  Let's work together to make your voice an instrument of empowered self-expression.

I have taught students age 7- 98! It’s never too late to learn.

Levels I offer:

Violin- all levels, recommended age to start is no earlier than 9 years old.  I teach classical, fiddle, and improvisation in multiple styles.
