About
Nicolette is a fiddler, songwriter and singer from Northern California with over ten years of experience in private lessons and classroom instruction. Nicolette holds a BA from UCLA, where she studied fiddling under Richard Greene and performed with the UCLA Old Time and Bluegrass Band. In the past ten years she has performed and recorded with her own bands, Alto and Fenway, and worked with countless ensembles and Grammy nominated artists including Haim, Passenger, Ryan Bingham, and Sure Sure, to name a few.
In the past decade, Nicolette has been a private teacher to hundreds of students, and worked with classes of up to 50, catering to students of all ages and levels. In her lessons, she combines her knowledge of classical technique and repertoire with a love for alternative genres to foster a well-rounded musical experience. Her own personal evolution with the violin and her passion for teaching make her uniquely positioned to understand her students, and discover where their love for their instrument truly lies.
Nicolette uses a student-centered approach to lessons, and strives to meet each student where they are both in lesson pacing, and in determining repertoire. With a educational background in both classical methods and American folk genres, and having adapted her skills to performing in pop and rock bands, she is able to provide a wide breadth of curricular resources to her students. Nicolette has coached students in everything from trap music to tango and believes a student can learn to play violin beautifully with any style of music as long as they love it.
