About

Pat is a guitar examiner and member of the College of Examiners of the Royal Conservatory Certificate Program. His students consistently achieve high level honors for their participation, and have been heard in honors recitals held at Carnegie Hall.

He is currently Adjunct Associate Professor of Guitar at Santa Rosa Junior College and Lake Tahoe Community College in California. During the summer he teaches at the Rocky Ridge Music Center in Estes Park, CO. Originally from New York City, he taught guitar for 35 years at the United Nations International School. He has also been Professor of Guitar and Music History at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, in Kingston, Jamaica.

Pat performs and tours internationally with his wife, flutist, Kathleen McDonald, and has recorded a CD of music for Flute and Guitar, “Hill of Slane - Psalms, Sonatas and Sojourns”. He has performed in solo at the Weill Recital Hall, Carnegie Hall and for Andres Segovia in Granada, Spain.

In addition to recording, Cherry Lane Music (now Hal Leonard) and Bergmann Editions, has published his arrangements and method books written for the guitar.

He holds a M.Mus. degree from Stony Brook University in New York, where he studied with Jerry Willard. Other teachers include Billy Bauer (jazz), Timothy Walker, and master classes with Angel Romero and Alexandre Lagoya.

Having just moved to Sonoma, Pat Bianculli is doing online guitar teaching to students of all ages and all levels. While his personal focus is classical guitar, Pat has taught many diverse style of music: folk, finger style, beginning jazz, blues and repertoire from the American songbook. He provides a strong technical basis for playing and invites his student to subsidize their studies with music of their choice.

For online lessons, Pat uses JackTrip Technology, developed at Stanford University. This allows the lessons to have both the highest quality sound as well as much lower latency than can be achieved through Zoom, FaceTime or other collaborative platforms. The only requirements on the student side are a free downloaded app and an ethernet cable connected to the home router.
