I have been a drummer my whole life. A recent graduate from The New School's prestigious Jazz Performance program, I have over 12 years of professional experience performing and recording as both a drummer and percussionist in Northern California and New York, as well as on tours in other parts of the country and the world. While still in high school, I started leading rehearsals for younger students and teaching private students outside of school, and have continued teaching in person and remotely since then.
I love playing and teaching in a wide range of musical styles including Jazz, Rock, Pop, Latin and Folk, and have a passion for drawing out and cultivating that unconditional love of music in young people. I know from experience that learning from someone who is a skillful teacher, not just a gifted musician, makes all the difference in the world.
My favorite thing about teaching is expanding a student’s awareness and perspective just a little bit, and then being able to watch them do something they thought they couldn’t. Sometimes all we need is a little push or a slightly different lens to change our view from impossible to possible. My teaching style reflects the specific needs of the student, and I will always hear from them first on what would be the most helpful.
I have been making music my whole life and have played on stages in NYC, Texas, Montreal and all across California, as well as in multiple recording studios. I have been in groups playing rock, jazz, folk, world music, and R&B and have been teaching drumming in these style for over 6 years.
I have performed at well known venues including Vitello's and The Whisky A-go-go in LA, The Fox Theater, Yoshi's, Slim's and The Freight and Salvage in the SF Bay Area, and Jazz at Lincoln Center and Shapeshifter Lab in NYC. I have also recorded at studios including Samurai Hotel, Moon Recording, Fantasy Studios, 25th Street Studios and Degraw Sound.
I have bachelor's degree in music performance from one of the country's top Jazz programs and have been teaching privately for over 6 years.
