Peter Wight

Hello!

My name is Peter Wight, and I am an experienced music tutor. I have played piano and trumpet professionally for the past 7 years, and I have been teaching music for 3 years. I went to school at Jacksonville State University in Alabama to study music education, and I took lessons the entire time that I was there. I have played and taught for countless elementary, middle, and high school classes and choirs. I have played for many shows, bands and orchestras, churches, and individuals.

Specifics

Some specific shows I have played for include: Peter Pan, Annie, Cinderella, Cosi Fan Tutte, Little Women, and The Gondoliers. All of these shows were put on by the JSU departement of Opera and Theatre. I was a part of the JSU Marching Southerners, and the JSU Chamber Winds from 2019-2024. I have taught Jacksonville High School's Band Camp from 2022-2025. I was a part of the JSU Brass Choir/Brass Band from 2021-2023. From 2022-2026 I was a music tutor at JSU. I helped students with these classes: Music theory (1-6), Aural Skills (1-4), Music History, and Music Technology. I also tutored students in trumpet and piano throughout that time.

My teaching style is based off of building blocks, and constant assessment. I believe that much of music is a step-related process, where if we try to move too quickly to new steps, we will end up lacking in the tools required for future steps. If you choose me as your tutor, I can assure you that I will utilize constant assessment to help you reach your goals as efficiently as possible!
