About

Rachael Szewc is currently pursuing a Masters in Viola Performance at Southern Illinois University under the tutelage of Prof. Michael Barta. She received her Bachelor’s in Music Education and Violin Performance from the University of Maine, where she studied with Dr. Anatole Wieck. Rachael is passionate about collaborating with other musicians and regularly performs in orchestras, chamber groups and festivals throughout the country. She has participated in a variety of ensembles including the Southern Illinois Music Festival, Pierre Monteux School and Music Festival, Paducah Symphony Orchestra, Bangor Symphony Orchestra, and Mainely Baroque. Rachael is also an active educator and teaches privately, has directed multiple youth orchestras and coached chamber music throughout Maine and Illinois.

I seek to cultivate a life long enjoyment of music. I'm willing to work with students of all ages and levels, regardless of their past music experience. My initial goal is to provide each student with a firm foundation in technique, musical understanding and appreciation. From there, students can freely explore their musical interests and styles.

I cater each lesson's curriculum to the individual student. Before assigning new music, or recommending texts, I assess the student's age, level, background and musical interests or goals.
