About
Italian-born, Rico Casazza is a self-forged artist: DJ, electronic music producer, film scorer, and sound designer — a life woven around sound and music.
For almost two decades, he has navigated the underground with a strong voice of his own, shaping a style that fuses Minimal, Techno, and Electro/IDM, where raw dancefloor pulse collides with cinematic atmospheres and shades of nostalgic resonance. His discography spans over 26 EPs, six albums, and numerous remixes, establishing him as a seasoned producer with a distinct and enduring sound on his own.
At 19 Rico went to live in London, where he immersed in the UK’s vibrant scene deeply influenced his artistic path. Today, his productions balance strong raw grooves contrasted with emotional depth, offering a journey that bridges dancefloor energy with introspective soundscapes.
As a performer, Rico has performed stages across Europe, Mexico, India, and some of the US. His DJ sets are laser-focused on rhythm and movement while infused with dub and ambient textures, pretty much similar to his productions. Highlights include Fabric London, Boiler Room Goa, DGTL Festival, and Kittenpop in Mumbai.
Beyond the club, Rico applies his craft to cinema as both a film composer and sound designer, creating immersive sonic worlds that amplify visual storytelling. Since 2021, he has also shared his expertise through a growing YouTube channel, offering Ableton Live tutorials and music insights to an audience of 3.4k subscribers at the moment.
Currently based in Prague, Rico continues to push artistic boundaries, expanding his vision at the intersection of electronic music and sound art.
Teaching Style
My teaching approach is hands-on from the first session. We work directly inside Ableton Live on whatever you're trying to build, whether that's a track, a live set, a DJ tool, a sound design workflow, or a mixing chain. No theory for its own sake.
I've been producing electronic music since 1999 and performing as a DJ since the early 2000s. My background shaped how I teach: I think about music in terms of how it works on a dancefloor, how it holds up on vinyl, and how it functions in a live set. I've released records across Techno, Electro, IDM, Minimal, and Ambient, and I know Ableton not just as a studio tool but as a live performance instrument.
Alongside music production, I work professionally in film audio, covering dialogue editing, sound design, Foley, SFX, and 5.1 surround mixing. That precision carries directly into how I approach sound in Ableton, and I bring it into sessions when it's useful.
I hold an MA in Sound Design from Goldsmiths, University of London. I adapt to where you are. Beginners get structure without jargon. More experienced students get straight into problem-solving and refinement.
Sessions are available in English, Italian, or Spanish.
My goal is to get you working independently and making decisions with confidence. I'm not here to shape your sound. I'm here to make sure you have the tools to get where you want to go.
Curriculum
Project-based. Every session is built around something you're actually making. I don't run through features in isolation. You learn a tool because you need it for the thing in front of you. I share my screen, you share yours, and we work together in real time. Between sessions I can give you specific tasks or challenges to keep momentum going.
Recommended Student Texts:
The official Ableton Live manual is the only reference I consistently recommend. It's well written, comprehensive, and always up to date for your version. Beyond that, I point students toward specific YouTube channels, online communities, and resources based on what they're working on. There's no single book that covers Ableton the way the software deserves. Good ears and time inside the DAW will teach you more than any text.
