Having graduated from The University of Iowa in 2010 with a degree in Percussion Performance and Music Education, Rob has been teaching both privately and in classrooms for over a decade. With experience in everything from General Music, to 5th-12th grade Band and Musical Theater, Rob is capable of teaching any age and/or experience level.
In addition to his teaching career, Rob has performed and recorded with a variety of bands, played and directed pit orchestras, been an audio engineer/producer on several albums and has composed/arranged several pieces for his students and for high school ensembles.
His topmost strength is teaching drums and percussion, but he is also proficient in teaching most woodwinds and brass as well as audio engineering and production.
I firmly believe that the absolute first and foremost priority in learning music is that it be enjoyable. I wholly understand that each person decides to pursue music for different reasons. As such, my very first step is to determine the goals of each individual student. Those goals will determine the curriculum and path that we take to fulfill those goals.
In addition, I also believe that failure is a natural part of the journey on the way to success. I strive to create an empathetic, stress-free lesson environment where we can learn from our failures without letting them stop our overall progress.
Depending on the instrument and goals of the student, I will assign a variety of method books/texts which will help guide the student through their practice.
