Robert Grogan, Ph.D.
About
Dr. Robert Grogan is a nationally recognized music educator, clinician, and performer with extensive experience teaching concert band, jazz, chamber music, and band students of all ages and ability levels. He currently serves as Director of Bands at Barber Middle School in Georgia, where his ensembles have earned invitations to prestigious events including the University of Georgia MidFest, the Music for All National Festival, and multiple Music for All Regional Concert Band Festivals.
Dr. Grogan holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from Auburn University and is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who performed with the Marine Corps Logistics Base Band in Albany, Georgia. In addition to teaching students, he frequently works with directors and honor ensembles as a clinician, adjudicator, and educational consultant.
His teaching approach focuses on building strong fundamentals while helping students develop confidence, musical independence, and a genuine love for music. Lessons are tailored to each student’s goals and learning style, whether preparing for beginner success, honor band auditions, All-State auditions, solo and ensemble performances, or advanced musical growth. Students and families appreciate his structured yet encouraging approach, high expectations, and ability to make learning both engaging and rewarding.

My teaching style is positive, structured, and student-centered. I believe every student can achieve success with the right combination of encouragement, clear goals, and individualized instruction. I focus heavily on building strong fundamentals, developing musical confidence, and helping students become independent musicians while keeping lessons engaging, challenging, and enjoyable.
