About
You will play the cello beautifully! Lessons with me will be based on your goals and your schedule. I can't wait to get you started!
I have been playing the cello since I was 9 years old. I've played in many orchestras and chamber music ensembles throughout the U.S., Canada, Germany and Italy. In addition to classical music, my eclectic musical tastes have led me to share the stage with some of today's major recording artists such as Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Evanescence and Disturbed.
I'll teach you the basics and then we can explore your favorite genre!
I have crafted my teaching style based on my studies with some of the world's finest cellists. From my beginning years with members of the Buffalo Philharmonic (New York State) to my conservatory days with Regina Mushabac and Lee Fiser, to my continuing education with Eric Kim (Indiana University Bloomington), Hans-Christian Schweiker, (Aachen, Germany), I honed my skills not only as a cellist but also as a cello teacher. I have learned to pay close attention to my students' goals and tailor their lessons to reach them. My students have ranged in age from 10-80 and their skill levels are from beginner to advanced.
Masters of Music in Cello Performance, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Bachelor's of Music in Performance, The Baldwin-Wallace UNiversity Conservatory of Music Suzuki Book 1 Certification, Chicago Suzuki Institute
For all of my students, I strive to build up their "toolkit" of technique by learning rudiments of cello playing. I have a myriad of different study books to choose from, and I select them based on what I believe would not only fit the student's level of playing, but also what will keep them interested and engaged in their cello playing.
While I have some training in Suzuki, my methods would be described as "traditional". However, I incorporate much of what I have learned from the Suzuki method in my teaching, especially with beginners.
I introduce major classical cello repertoire to all of my students. However, I encourage my students to explore other styles of music if they are inclined.
