I have played Jazz piano full time for the last 32 years. My trio (The Ron Kobayashi Trio) has been together 27 years and recorded 1 DVD and 6 CDs to date, receiving airplay worldwide. I've performed with Mel Torme, Peter Frampton, Kenny Burrell, Peter White and Tom Scott among many others. My trio was voted Best Jazz by the Orange County Weekly in 1996 and in 2012 we were nominated for Outstanding Jazz Group by the Orange County Music Awards. I have played numerous venues and festivals throughout Southern California, New York, Arizona and Nevada. For 5 years I served as Music Director for the Hollywood Diversity Awards. I've taught for 25 years both privately, and at Biola University (10 years) and the Orange County School of the Arts (9 years). My Trio has done numerous lectures on Jazz at public libraries throughout Southern California. I've also adjudicated several high school Jazz band festivals. My teaching style is energetic, as I try to communicate as much information each lesson as possible.

I give a lot of information each lesson so most of my students will take a lesson, take a few weeks to practice all the material and contact me when they are ready for the next lesson. I can also teach on a regular schedule if preferred. I have handouts for most concepts and exercises that I will email to you beforehand, so you can follow along during our lesson.
