About

Russell Sweet holds a Master of Music in Multiple Woodwinds Performance from the University of Oregon, where he studied saxophone with Dr. Idit Shner, flute with Dr. Jacqueline Cordova‑Arrington, and clarinet with Dr. Wonkak Kim. At the University of Oregon, he served as the saxophone graduate employee, teaching lessons, coaching chamber ensembles, and leading the saxophone techniques class. He also holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Minnesota, where he studied saxophone with Dr. Preston Duncan. Russell now teaches private lessons and performs with jazz bands, chamber ensembles, and pit orchestras throughout the Twin Cities.

Teaching Style

My teaching is focused on helping students achieve the confidence and independence needed to continue improving outside of lessons. I use proven methods to break complex musical problems into simpler, manageable steps so students always know what to listen for and how to move forward. I enjoy helping students discover repertoire that resonates with them and that inspires meaningful progress.
