Ryan Garmoe
About
Ryan Garmoe graduated with a degree in trumpet performance from the University of Northern Iowa in 2018.
As a professional trumpet player, Ryan has worked for Norwegian and Regent Seven Seas Cruise Lines, sharing the stage with Juno Award Winners, finalists from 'The Voice', Van Cliburn International Piano Competition Medalists, and numerous singers from Broadway and London's West End. Ryan has appeared with the wcf symphony orchestra, brass quintet, and brass ensemble as well as performances at the Iowa City Jazz Festival, Greeley Jazz Festival, Summer Camp Music Festival, Iowa Soul Festival, and 515 Alive Music Festival.
Ryan also arranges for singers and composes jazz music for his groups, Wave Cage and the Ryan Garmoe Quintet.
As an educator, Ryan has been teaching privately since 2015 and his students have placed in all state band, orchestra, and jazz band, as well as accepted on trumpet scholarship to regional universities. Ryan has also appeared as a guest clinician alongside university professors for high school concert band, jazz bands, chamber ensembles, trumpet ensemble, and trumpet masterclass.
I believe in fostering an environment of creativity, exploration, and goal oriented decisions. I place strong emphasis on trumpet fundamentals, as well as a working and relevant knowledge of music theory. It is my goal, through careful guidance, that students can learn how to identify the areas they wish to improve upon and the discover the necessary steps to most effectively achieve them.
I also encourage students to listen to music and to learn how to enjoy the process of practicing an instrument. It is supposed to be fun!
