About

Sarah Kendis was born and raised in Beachwood, Ohio, where she was a student of Danna Sundet.  After completing her undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music as a student of Mark Ostoich, she went on to pursue her graduate work at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where she studied with Cynthia DeAlmeida, principal oboist of the Pittsburgh Symphony.

Active as a freelancer in the Pittsburgh area, Sarah also plays regularly in the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra in Ithaca, New York.  Other recent engagements have included work with the Erie Philharmonic, Canton Symphony, Westmoreland Symphony, and New World Symphony.  In recent years, she has participated in the Kent Blossom Music Festival, National Orchestral Institute, Sarasota Music Festival, Texas Music Festival, and the Festival-Institute at Round Top, Texas.

I provide private oboe & reed-making lessons (in your location or mine) as well as professional quality handmade oboe & English horn reeds (also shipped nationally). Private lessons are tailored toward each individual student and cover everything from oboe fundamentals to musicianship. Reed-making instruction is offered and encouraged for intermediate and advanced students as well. For those who live outside of the Pittsburgh area, I also offer online lessons through Skype.

During lessons, we will work on scales, etudes, and solo music. I will recommend etude books and solo pieces that are appropriate to the student, although beginners are welcome to work from their school ensemble books as well. We can also work on music for outside groups such as school, youth orchestras, etc. as necessary. For online students, copies of your music should be emailed or snail-mailed to me.

Lessons are $30 for a half hour and $50 for the full hour. Half hour lessons are appropriate for beginners until their endurance improves, while intermediate to advanced students should take full hour lessons. Traveling to your location (for full hour lessons only) will incur an extra charge of $5.
