About

As the owner of Sewn Company, Sarah Woodyard is committed to hand-sewing preservation as a teacher and practitioner. Sarah became a Journeywoman Milliner and Mantua-maker in 2015 completing her seven-year apprenticeship at the Margaret Hunter Millinery Shop in Colonial Williamsburg where she worked for ten years. Sarah holds her M.A. in Material Culture from the University of Alberta. While at Colonial Williamsburg she taught a variety of 18th-century hand-sewing workshops at the museum and with Burnley and Trowbridge.

Through Sewn she teaches hand-sewing to historical sewists and modern makers. Sarah has taught short and long form virtual hand-sewing workshops through Sewn Company, Tatter Blue Library, and Selvedge Magazine. Through her Patreon and at www.sewncompany.com she offers a library of on-demand hand-sewing classes. She hopes by picking up a needle and thread you will “remember what your hands can do.” Find Sarah on Instagram @sewnstories.
