About
Sean Arawjo is a full-time flutist, composer, teacher, and podcaster with a Master's Degree in Flute Performance, decades of experience, and a deep love of both classical and non-classical music.
His diverse musical interests have afforded him the opportunity to perform at a wide variety of events and venues including the New York Flute Fair, the Vans Warped Tour, Supernova International Ska Fest, and countless other coffee shops, clubs, basements, art spaces, churches, and music halls.
Sean's self-produced recordings have been featured on popular podcasts including How Did This Get Made, The Dollop: England & UK, The Todd Glass Show, Hornpod, and 23 Minutes of Ska.
I strive to create a positive and comfortable atmosphere during lessons, a safe space where students can experiment with the different parameters that shape their sound and playing style. I also stress the importance of the fundamentals, especially rhythm and tone, while providing multiple approaches to mastering each concept. I value variety and my students enjoy playing all different kinds of music: classical, rock, jazz, contemporary classical, pop, video game tunes, and music we make up on the spot. I can teach you the skills you need to succeed while working on fun music in any of these genres!
In addition to flute, I've been teaching saxophone and clarinet for many years and I encourage my students to double on another instrument whenever possible. I like helping saxophone and clarinet players with their flute skills, and I like teaching flutists to double!
I love teaching all ages but I particularly enjoy working with adult students.
Every student learns differently and encounters different obstacles along their musical journey. For this reason, I tailor my curriculum to each student based on their individual learning style, ability level, and how much time they have to practice. Here are a few of my go-to books:
