About

My name is Sergio. I am Spanish and I am a clarinet player. I finished last year my master's degree in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and I live now in The Netherlands. I like to teach and transmit my joy for music and the clarinet to other people. I also like to play and I do regular concerts in The Netherlands, Belgium and Spain.

I started my studies in Salamanca, a small city in the center of Spain. I started to play the clarinet in a wind band, and later I went to the university for becoming a professional.

I always wanted to go abroad and that's why I moved to Maastricht (Netherlands) for doing an Erasmus. Later on, I moved to Amsterdam for my studies.

About me as a person: I like to read (especially novels), do yoga, and go trekking in the mountain (although The Netherlands is quite a flat country!)

If you have any questions about me or my lessons, feel free to contact me!

Cheers,

Sergio Sánchez

The main feature of my teaching method is that it is highly personalized. Music is a very personal activity, and it is essential for me to discover the inner motivations of my students, and encourage them. It is very important for me to discover which kind of music do you like to listen or to hear, what do you expect from my lessons, what are you aiming for with your music education. Later on, I can offer you the way of teaching that will help you the most. I adapt both to the age of my students, and their level, so it doesn't matter whether you are a beginner or a skillful player.

I use several books with exercises and pieces, so I can offer the material which suits the best to you. In that way I can also create a nice build up; each session I give challenges to my students: big enough to be exciting but still possible to accomplish.

When I teach, I focus on several aspects of the instrument: we will go deep into tone, articulation, breathing, body health, fingering, phrasing, fingering and musicality. They are all different, and at the same time, they are all related. Also, if you are interested, we will explore topics such as: how to prepare auditions for orchestra or the university, how to be consistent when you play for others and how to truly enjoy that situation, etc.

In addition to the instrument, I also consider music theory, history and listening to music fundamental to every musician. In the end of every lesson I propose listening recommendations to talk about the next day, and we talk about history and theory through the lessons, to complement the technical and musical aspects.

And, of course, the key point: we will enjoy music through all the process, as the love for music is the most important feature to get better at it.

If you have any questions about me or my lessons, feel free to contact me without any commitment.

Cheers,

Sergio
