Shelby Canady

Hello! My name is Shelby Canady. I started my musical journey when I was six years old taking piano lessons. I took piano lessons until I was 14 years old. When I was 10 years old I joined band where I started to learn how to play the flute. I played mostly the flute throughout middle and high school performing with the concert band and the marching bands. I also was awarded the John Phillip Sosa Award in 2013. After high school I went to Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, North Carolina and majored in Music Education. During my time at Cape Fear Community College I performed with the orchestra and had a few solo performances for grand openings of new buildings. I was also volunteering at local middle and high schools teaching flute players and drum majors. Continuing with my education I went onward to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where I've had several performances with the Spirit of the Carolina's Marching Band, UNCP's Concert band, UNCP's Flute Choir and many solo performances. Once I graduated I became an elementary music teach, but in the afternoons I go to local middle and high schools and work one on one with students in band. 

My teaching style really depends on the student. I try to find the best way for that particular student to learn.
