About

Hello! I am an experienced performer and teacher in the area of double reeds. I have served as Principal Oboe with the Glens Falls Symphony since 2012, Second Oboe with the Vermont Symphony since 2001, and have recently rejoined the oboe section of Sinfonia Gulf Coast. I also frequently play oboe with the Jacksonville Symphony, and bassoon with the Valdosta Symphony. I served for twelve years on the Music faculty at the College of Saint Rose, where I taught oboe and bassoon, Music Theory and Ear Training, and Woodwind Methods. My students have gone on to become performers and educators around the country. I'm eager to help you up your game for performances, auditions, or just learn your instrument better!

My approach is to guide students in building their own development, using transfer to help students make connections to new skills through their own prior mastery. Regardless of skill or experience level, there is always something in your playing to build upon and encourage, and you will come out of each lesson eager to explore the next step. I also integrate theory and ear training in our lessons to develop a complete musician behind the instrument. Finally, when a student is ready, I encourage them to explore repertoire as they see fit and collaborate with me on their direction.

Master Music Education, Florida State University
MM, New England Conservatory
BM, Oberlin Conservatory

I'm comfortable working with all beginner methods, and for more advanced students I work out of the Barrett and Ferling methods for oboe, Weissenborn for bassoon, and Sellner for saxophone. Repertoire is always appropriate to the level of the student, usually beginning with simple tunes before going to Baroque composers such as Handel and moving on to more contemporary selections.
