Simon Christian Hubbard
About
I have been playing drums for over 15 years now in styles ranging from rock to pop to jazz to metal and beyond. I have played in many bands of varying genre and I have recorded on numerous projects. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of music in 2020 with a degree in Contemporary Writing and Production, and since then I have moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a professional musician.
I have been teaching drums to students privately on and off since 2018. My students have ranged in age from as young as 8 all the way up to collegiate musicians, but I am happy to teach students of any age. I also worked for an online lessons platform called Varsity Tutors teaching online drum set and music production lessons throughout 2021.
Since moving to Los Angeles, I have played with a number of projects both in a live setting and on recordings. Two notable instances of this are the metal project Ghost Hour that I released an EP with earlier this year, and the pop artist Tanja with whom I've played a number of live shows. In addition to this, I will frequently play one-off gigs with jazz and rock group at various bars and restaurants in the LA area.
Teaching Style
My teaching style seeks to achieve two things:
1. How can I best help my student grow as a musician and develop the skills they need to succeed at their personal instrumental goals?
2. How can I encourage of lasting love of music and drumming as an art form?
I attempt to personalize my lesson plan for each student I take on in order to give them the best possible chance of success. I always emphasize that drumming, like anything, requires practice and dedication in order to see results, but my primary concern is that the student finds their own musical language and can effectively speak that language in a way that is meaningful to them. That is how you create great musicians who love what they do.
