About
Simon Springer is a live and session drummer and drum instructor based in Vienna, Austria. His work is mostly in the Austrian pop, jazz, studio and musical theatre scene, but has also lead him to work with known artists world wide. It includes playing with Wolfgang Ambros, Schiffkowitz (STS), Christian Kolonovits, Franz Morak, Mischa Krausz, Maya Hakvoort, Adam Holzmann, Gene Pritsker, Franz Hackl, Jane Getter, Robert Riegler, Roman Schwaller, Tiktaalik, Jakob Zimmermann Trio, Team Geil, Die Wödmasta, Volksoper Wien, Vereinigte Bühnen Wien, Volkstheater Wien and many more.
Simon has been playing drums for over 25 years and has a masters degree in jazz drums. His high interest in educational material and freakish addiction to the drumset has lead him to acquire a great knowledge of the instrument. He spent the last couple of years structuring that knowledge into logical, understandable and essential workouts to continuously work on his own abilities as well as to share them with his students.
His main fields of expertise include: technique, musicality, time keeping, pop/rock styles, funk/soul styles, jazz/fusion styles, traditional jazz, sight reading, odd meters, mental aspects of music making and many more.
Simon passed his Jazz and Popular Music Diploma in Innsbruck at the Conservatory of Tyrol with distinction. After moving to Vienna he studied six years at the MUK (Music and Art University of the City of Vienna), passing both his Bachelor's and Master's degree with distinction as well.
Simon teaches privately since 2007 and also gives workshops. He plays around 120 concerts per year, has done many recording sessions, has won several prices and has performed professionally in 11 countries all over the globe.
