Simone Reisman

Hello!  My name is Simona.  On Lessonface I teach voice and songwriting :`)

  I am an active musician from  New York City!  My two main passions in life are music and language.  I have played my original music in venues around the world.  I've taught all ages.  

I have been singing classically since I was 11 years old, and I have theory, piano, guitar, and Oud background. 

Pronunciation is a strength of mine, as I am multilingual and also have experience in the language field.   

I have learned and taught many different styles of vocal singing, extending from rock to classical, and am happy to work with you on any kind of music!  I also have audio and industry experience, working at a record label in Mexico City, and would happy to help you establish yourself better as a songwriter and give you songwriting tips.  If you need to sing a song in a specific language, I also have good IPA understanding/can help you with your pronunciation; and if you are simply looking to learn English or Spanish, we can use music as a tool to help you advance!  We will delve into the depths of the character of the language of your choice/the music you wish to study, no matter what your focus may be!  

Hola, me llamo Simone y soy de Nueva York. Yo enseño voz/canto, y composición contemporánea. Viví en la Ciudad de México durante dos años y soy latina. Obtuve mi licenciatura en idiomas y cultura en español con una especialidad en música. Creo que todo conocimiento puede llegar a profundizarse y me encanta poder compartir habilidades que amo mientras conozco a nuevas personas. Todos tenemos algo para ofrecer y yo estoy aqui para ayudarles a crecer. ¡Gracias!

Voice:

I like to begin the study by asking the student what their focus of style may be/their motivations/goals in order to prepare properly for the lesson.  We then warm up with lip trills, scales, and other exercises in order to properly open up the voice and warm up the body.  The student then sings through the piece they may be working on, and if they are uncomfortable, simply a small section.  We work on building confidence as well as deeper understanding about the piece and repairing/creating good technical ability in order to better enhance feeling and performance.  :) 

Es importante que sepa la clase de música que quiere cantar el estudiante para poder eligir un método bueno. Con todos mis estudiantes me gusta comenzar calentando la voz con trinos de labios, escalas, y ejercicios de respiración. Después es bueno escuchar la obra en progreso para después poder aplicar la técnica. ¡Intentaremos mejorar la confianza y encontrar una nueva apreciación para la música!

Songwriting:

These lessons are a bit more open.  I need to understand the style the student likes to write in.  Ideally the student would work on composition for each class that we could then perfect as well as taking a bit of time during the lesson to talk about technique be with the voice, piano, and/or the guitar.  If we are working with a mp3 we will talk about the mix, how to make it better/different DAW techniques.  Depending on the student, we will also listen to music in order to evaluate composition and arrangement techniques to think about bringing into our own music and in order to expand our musical ear.  

¡Podemos hacer de todo! Estaría bien que el estudiante llegara con una obra ya hecha, para poder ver como podríamos expandirla, analizarla, arreglarla, etc. Aprenderemos teoría musical para poder profundizar nuestras habilidades de la forma teorica si es que el estudiante quiere. Analizaremos poesía y otras canciones de compositores estimados para entender mejor como se escriben buenas letras .
