About

I work as a professional violinist and violin instructor in Rochester, NY, performing with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and teaching private and group lessons at ROCmusic (a fantastic after-school community program) as well as maintaining a private studio. I also play with many other professional orchestras and chamber groups around upstate NY across a variety of styles – I have played traditional repertoire, worked with many living composers, explored folk music and jazz, and recently performed string quartets in an immersive theater production. I am a recent graduate of the Eastman School of Music, where I studied with Rochester Philharmonic concertmaster Juliana Athayde. Outside of violin, I also perform on tuba, voice, and steel drums, and outside of my work, I can be found reading science fiction, playing with animals, or enjoying live music of all kinds.

I have taught privately for many years and I am passionate about sharing the joy of violin playing, exploring a wide variety of repertoire, and finding creative ways to learn and improve. My own music education was where I learned to build collaborative relationships, give and receive feedback, and embrace lifelong learning (and have lots of fun!), and these things are priorities in my teaching — providing students with the skills needed for rewarding collaborative experiences, guiding students towards self-assessment, and helping students to welcome mistakes and challenges. I love to explore new repertoire and materials and have often arranged pieces for my students. I encourage students to explore music that connects with their interests.
