About
I’m an opera singer based in Austin, TX, where I enjoy singing a wide range of repertoire: classic and contemporary opera, musical theater, choral music, and even Gregorian chant! I am a regular performer with Austin Opera, and have sung with young artist programs throughout the US, including Charlottesville Opera, Opera NEO, Luke Housner Summer Opera Workshop, Spotlight on Opera, Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre, and the Aspen Opera Center. Since 2012 I have operated the Maus Vocal Studio, working with students throughout the greater Austin/Round Rock area. As a guest artist and teacher, I've given master classes with Youth Opera of El Paso and the Aspen Music Festival and have worked with educational outreach for Austin Opera. I have one goal for all of my students: building a healthy vocal foundation that allows them to enjoy singing for the rest of their lives. My voice studio is primarily made up of middle and high school students, but a wide range of ages are welcome. Stylistically I tend to focus on classical and musical theater singing, and I thoroughly enjoy coaching students to prep for auditions or other events. I work with singers of all levels - I believe that everyone can learn to sing, and that my job as a voice teacher is to help each student uncover what is unique and special about his or her own voice. My foundational training is classical singing, and those principles are what I teach, but I also try to help students apply healthy singing to whatever style they wish to sing. In addition to healthy technique, I want to help my students become stronger musicians as a whole, so I use solfege to help with both ear-training and music-reading. I also work with my students to develop their skill as performers, and work on performance coaching as a part of song preparation. Whether focusing on basics of singing, music-reading, or performance coaching, lessons can be tailored to each student's specific needs and goals.
