Steve Strand

Steve Strand has been performing professionally as a jobbing, touring and studio trumpet player as well as private instructor since 1978 and is a member of the internationally renowned a capella jazz funk horn section, Hornheads.

Steve has performed and toured with artists such as Prince, Cory Wong, Vulfpeck, Doc Severinsen Big Band, Larry Graham, Carmen Electra, Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion, Lenny Kravitz, Michael Bolton, Frankie Valli, B J Thomas, Trisha Yearwood, Burt Bacharach, Gladys Knight, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Tony Bennett, Wayne Newton and Johnny Mathis, and in pit show Orchestras at the Ordway, Orpheum, Carlton Celebrity room, and State theaters. Also performances with the Minnesota Orchestra, Minnesota Pops Orchestra, Minnesota Sinfonia and Lorie Line’s Pop Chamber Orchestra. Steve has also had appearances on MTV, MTV Europe and the Arsenio Hall Show.

His recordings include Prince, Hornheads, Cory Wong, Baby Face, Mandy Moore, The Jonas Brothers, Chaka Kahn, Larry Graham (Sly and the Family Stone) and Carmen Electra. Commercial jingle projects include BMW, Cadillac, Holiday Inn Express, Target, CNN, CBS, Kare 11 News, WCCO 4 News, TNN Sports, ESPN, Minnesota Wild themes, Atlanta Thrashers themes, Minnesota Twins, Purina, Skippy Peanut Butter plus many others.

I teach all ages and all levels.  Work is based on the student's goals and current abilities and may range from the basics to helping prepare solo/ensemble competitions and auditions or even what's required on the next gig.  Many of my students have gone on to be professionals in the music industry as well as teachers and band directors.

I teach the technical aspects of trumpet and work on repertoire from classical to jazz, funk and pop.
