About

Subhashini is the artistic director of Ragamala Music Academy located in Santa Clara, CA. She began her music journey with her mother Shyamala’s guidance at the age of five and was fine tuned by Guru Vidwan Ramachandra Rao. Concurrently, her Veena training began under the guidance of her Grand Father, Vidwan Gopinatha Das (founder of Prabhah Kalavidaru in Bangalore) and continued with Smt. Usha Shastry.

Subhashini gave her first stage performance at the age of seven for the Japanese International Music festival in India. As a child, she has accompanied renowned artists such as Dr. Balamurali Krishna in his well-known musical album ‘Narasimha Suprabhatha,’ composed by Vidwan Gopinatha Das.

She also had a great opportunity of composing and performing a song for a popular Hollywood music producer, Christopher Franke. This song was produced for a TV series called “Bombay,” aired on the popular TV channels in US.

Subhashini has collaborated and created fusion music with a flavor of Karnatic, Jazz and Blues in collaboration with Robert Edgar and renowned Sitarist Ashwin Batish. Subhashini is a well versed ‘artist’ in the field of Karnatic classical vocal music, string instrument Veena, and is a trained in Bharathanatyam dance form.

She was selected as a 'Teacher’s affiliate’ program of Shankar Mahadevan Academy and took the lead on starting a onsite center in Bay Area. She has trained 200+ students at the local after school programs. She has worked as the creative director for 3 fusion and India classical music videos on Indian Raga platform from Bay Area.
