About
Who am I? If you don't know yet, my name is Tatiana Thaele and I am the founder of The Flute Practice, an online hub of flute education that helps flutists from all over the world realize their dream of playing the flute.
I have taught students from as young as 6 all the way to 89 on 6 different continents and one thing really stands out: music is deeply meaningful to people. It helps us express parts of ourselves that we so often cannot do in other ways, it brings us calm in the chaos of the world and if we allow it, it even helps us look at ourselves and grow personally. I love teaching because as we spend hours working through scales, technical exercises, and etudes, as we fight and grapple with the challenges on the instrument, we start to gain the tools to express ourselves more freely. And as this happens, we find even more meaning and joy in this expressive art form.
I believe that learning should be excellent and fun. So while we take this learning process seriously, working effectively and efficiently to improve your playing, we also have a sense of humor about the journey, laugh, and find joy in your playing.
I believe, everyone, no matter who you are or how good or bad you think you are, has the potential to improve and grow on this beautiful instrument. I have taught 100s of students and have not yet found one for whom this was not possible!
One of my favorite moments is meeting a new student or player and hearing their sound and musical voice. It is like unwrapping a gift, a gift that promises to be unique each time. This is only the beginning. The work begins and I become part of your journey, your highs and lows, I guide you through your struggles, motivate you to keep going, and then watch as you start to grow.
Then....my absolute favorite moment. The moment when we see that "aha" moment, your breakthrough, your transformation. This is really why I love to teach and work with players, this is what I would like to help do for you.

This was a FANTASTIC class!!! I learned things I never knew and I have been playing for 50 years! I can't believe no one ever taught me the right way to get a nice tone on the flute. I have been working with the tips from the class and heard a definite improvement in my tone almost immediately. I wish I could have had the opportunity to learn this information many years ago!!!

The class was excellent! Tatiana is an excellent teacher. She challenges me and yet does not go over my head with information. The lessonface platform was well equipped. It was easy to join the session. Sound quality and video were clear with no buffering. I would be interested in attending more classes like this one. Well done!

I really liked the self quiz at the end. I would like to see more of that, where we can challenge ourselves to think quick. I would also like maybe a little more advanced version, with more emphasis on minor scales and different, fun, interesting ways to practice all scales. This was a good class and I would like to see it taken to the next level, if there are others interested in that.
