Hey there! My name is Tom Criblez and I am a Brooklyn musician. I mainly play the drums and guitar and within muliple projects. I play in local bands Ritual Talk, Carli & The Dark, as well as, my own ambient project under the name teasea. I have been playing drums since the age of 10 and have travelled the country multiple times performing since age 15. I have also taught private drum lessons to all ages since I'm 17. I have tons of of performance experience, as well as, writing and recording experience. I have studied under Shawn Pelton, SNL drummer, and graduated from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music with a BFA degree in jazz performance for drums. I have booked my own cross-country tours for my band Ritual Talk and continue to write and craft my own music and style within all the projects I am involved in. I love sharing the gift of music through teaching and believe it's both a beautiful and equal exchange of learning for both sides. Let's jam!
The way I typically go about a lesson is to first have a discussion about what your goals are and get to know you a little bit. Then start with some warm up stuff to help with technique, stamina, and precision. The warm up stuff is to help set you up for any performance/practice sessions and has always helped me be fully equipt to perform to my highest potential. Then we would maybe do some reading and playing, if that is something you're interested in. I believe reading music and connecting it to the physical aspects of playing is super helpful in building that connection in your brain to make quick, accurate decisions when improvising or playing structured music. And then after that, depending one what the student is individually interested in learning, we can tackle whatever! This is more the fun/free part of the lesson. That is the typical structure that I go by!
